Sports Massage TherapyMassage therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissue in the body so that the muscles and joints can function normally. At enduraHEALTH we offer a variety of types of massage therapy and our main concern is meeting the needs of the client. Sports massage is great for overall maintenance of the body and recovery post exercise. It uses techniques adapted to deal with the effects of athletic performance on the body and the needs of the athletes regarding training, performing and recovery from injury. The treatment itself is more invigorating and aggressive but will leave the athlete feeling renewed and fresh.
Our massage therapy clinic is located just off 17th ave in downtown Calgary.

FAQs
When should I get a Sports Massage?
PRE-EVENT: Treatment prior to a big race or even a long training session can be hugely beneficial to help relax the muscles and prepare them for the big day. It will help get the blood pumping to the areas that need it and take away any lactic acid or waste build up that is restricting the proper use of the muscles and the joints.
A pre-event treatment should be approximately 3-4 days before the event but is hugely individual depending on if your body is used to getting treatment and how your tissue responds to treatment. Timing and frequency of your treatments should be discussed with your therapist. |
POST-EVENT: Treatment after your event has a huge impact on the length of recovery and how you feel during your recovery process. The length of time you wait to get treated after your event is very dependent on your body. Some athletes are very sore and sensitive to touch right after their event therefore waiting a few days would probably be best to get the most out of your treatment. Others can withstand a treatment within minutes of finishing or the next day.
Many races these days offer post-race massages and while these are beneficial to help flush the lactic acid right after your event they should not be a replacement to getting a proper treatment with your therapist. |
How often will I have to come?
Frequency of treatment should be discussed with your therapist but at enduraHEALTH we recommend a regular maintenance schedule of 1x per month. Of course this schedule is only a recommendation and will likely fluctuate as your training volume and intensity change. When finding a therapist to work with it is important to find one that you connect with, that you trust and someone who understands your sport. __ What do I need to bring for my first visit? Just yourself and your insurance card if you want us to set up direct billing. __ What do I need to do after my Sports Massage? It is very important to drink lots of water after your massage. When you receive a treatment many wastes and lactic acid are released from the muscles into the body . It is important to flush those materials from the body through sweat or urine so they do not go back into the muscles. Having a warm Epsom salts bath will also help pull the wastes from the body to prevent stiffness or soreness the next day, which is not uncommon. A form of light activity is also recommended to keep the blood pumping through the muscles and joints to help rid of wastes. __ Is Sports Massage covered by my insurance? Yes. Sports Massage falls under the scope of practice for Massage Therapy, Chiropractic and Physiotherapy. Please confirm with your health provider directly. __ Do you direct bill? Yes we are set up for direct billing. __ What is the cancellation policy? Any changes or cancelling of your appointment must be done within 24hours of your appointment or there will be a charge for the FULL price of your treatment. Any missed appointments will be charged the FULL price of your appointment. |
