How does Acupuncture help?
Most athletes experience increased flexibility and range of motion, greater endurance, and reduced muscle pain after an acupuncture treatment. Even if you don't consider yourself an athlete, acupuncture can help anyone with a regular exercise regimen.
Research has linked various forms of Acupuncture to improvements with neck pain, back pain, fibromyalgia pain, migraines, carpal tunnel symptoms, stress urinary incontinence in women, and hot flashes in breast cancer patients. Women undergoing fertility treatments are often encouraged to try acupuncture as well (although the American Pregnancy Association stresses that it shouldn't be used to treat infertility associated with tubal adhesions). It's also frequently suggested as a low-risk treatment for anxiety.
How can herbs help you?
From pain, stress, sleep disturbances, to low energy, herbal treatment has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries. Herbs are only used on a case-by-case basis, as not all clients require this form of treatment. Chinese herbal medicine is a safe, powerful, non-invasive modality used to promote better health and proper function in the body.
What is Moxa?
Moxabustion is a safe and effective way to decrease pain and promote circulation, commonly used to promote healing and treat conditions like arthritis. Moxibustion is the burning or application of the herb Mugwort near the affected areas. Patients can expect to feel a warming sensation where the herb is applied.
Most health insurance providers reimburse all or a portion of the fees for massage therapy, physiotherapy, and acupuncture treatments.

How long is the Initial Assessment?
The first appointment an take anywhere from 1hr to 1.5hrs depending on what your chief complaint is.
How often will I have to come?
Frequency of treatment is very dependent on the individual and the severity of the injury as well as, how much time has lapsed between the time of injury and your initial assessment. The sooner you get in to see us the better! Rehabilitating from an injury is also very dependent on YOU. You need to be proactive in your own health and know that your injury is only going to get better if YOU want to put in the effort to fix it. Yes, there will be homework!
What do I need to bring for my first Acupuncture treatment?
Wear clothing that allows easy access to the lower arms and legs and try not to book your visit on an empty stomach or straight after a heavy meal. Let your practitioner know if you are completely new to Acupuncture so they can take extra time to explain what happens and ensure you are comfortable with the process. Remember your insurance card if you want us to set up direct billing.
Is Acupuncture covered by my insurance?
Yes likely. Most providers cover Acupuncture or it falls under the scope of practice for Massage Therapy, Chiropractic and Physiotherapy. Please confirm with your health provider directly.
Do you direct bill?
Yes we are set up for direct billing.
What is the cancellation policy?
Any changes or cancelling of your appointment must be done within 24 hours of your appointment or there will be a charge. Any missed appointments will be charged.
"Dr. Rae has very quickly become a valued advisor in improving my health and preventing injury. I was nervous before my initial assessment, having never had acupuncture before, but she put me at ease with her professionalism, thorough questioning, and thoughtful consideration of what kind of treatment would be best for me. I am amazed at what she can tell about my health from basic diagnostic observations that I'd never experienced before, and am always touched by her kindness and genuine interest in my wellness. I thoroughly enjoy seeing Dr. Rae, and am grateful for the way she has positively impacted my health and my recovery from a running injury. I highly recommend her for your Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments."
